# Connect Cursor to your rank tracker with one config block

> Connect TheSerpAgent, the rank tracker your AI runs, to Cursor with one config block. The steps, how to check it and what to ask.

TheSerpAgent is the rank tracker your AI runs. One block in Cursor's config connects it. Cursor can then set up tracking, read what moved and make the client report. Positions are stored with date and ranking page.

You need a TheSerpAgent account on a plan or a running trial. Only the account owner can create a key.

1. Create a key In the app, open [AI assistants](https://app.theserpagent.ai/ai-assistants), name a key and create it. Copy it now: it is shown once. You can revoke it there at any time.
2. Add the config block Create or edit `~/.cursor/mcp.json` to have it in every project, or `.cursor/mcp.json` in one project. Put your key in place of `YOUR_API_KEY`. { "mcpServers": { "theserpagent": { "url": "https://api.theserpagent.ai/api/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY" } } } } If the file already lists other servers, add the `theserpagent` entry beside them. If the project is shared, use the file in your home folder, so your key stays out of the repository.
3. Ask Cursor Ask it to list your projects. By default Cursor asks for your approval before it uses an MCP tool, so you see each call and its arguments as it comes. Its Run Mode setting can change that.

## If it does not connect

Messages you can meet and what to do

| The server shows an error or no tools | Open the Output panel, choose MCP Logs and read the message there. A 401 means the key is wrong or revoked: create a new key and put it in the file. |
| A tool answers: Start your free trial to begin tracking. Choose a plan and add a card: nothing is charged for 14 days and you can cancel any time. | Tools that set up tracking, add a competitor or a channel, schedule a report, write a summary or spend checks need a plan or a running trial. Choose a plan in the app. |
| A tool answers that the plan's limit is reached | Your AI sees the same limits as you. Ask it to run `get_usage`, or change plan in the app. |

- Make the client report for the last 30 days.
